International Anti-Corruption Day being observed today  

ISLAMABAD  - International Anti-Corruption Day is being observed today (Wednesday) under the auspices of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to raise awareness regarding corruption all across the world.

Corruption is a serious offense that can destabilize social and economic development in society. Theme of the day is "Break the Corruption Chain" which highlights the action against corruption is imperative to achieve the sustainable development goals that aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and to ensure prosperity for all.

Talking to a ceremony to mark the day, president of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain said corruption is antithesis of good governance and negates the ideals of virtue, justice, responsibility, and public service.

He said corruption weakens democratic institutions, undermines the rule of law and enables the terrorists to finance their nefarious network and activities.

The president urged to join anti-corruption campaign with National Accountability Bureau to build awareness and resolve to end corruption by waging “Jihad” against this evil.

He said the government is fully committed to eliminate corruption and carryout the accountability of the corrupt.

On the other hand, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif had given free hand to National Accountability Bureau Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry to take stern action against the corrupt persons. He said that the nation has to assist authorities by rooting out corruption from the society.
